Molson muscle
DCHP-2 (Jun 2016)
Spelling variants:Molson Muscle, Molson-muscle, Molson's muscle
n. — informal, jocular
a beer belly.
Type: 1. Origin — Molson muscle is a fringe expression, most often used humorously in spoken registers or informal styles (see the 1967 quotation, from a student newspaper). It is occasionally used in print for stylistic effects (see, e.g., the 2012 quotation). This colloquialism makes a reference to the Canadian beer company Molson (now Molson Coors Canada), the oldest North American brewer, which was founded in 1786 in Montreal (see Molson Coors Canada reference). The term is nearly exclusive to Canada (see Chart 1).
